Built on sustainability

At voco® Gold Coast we look after the planet with the same care as we look after our travellers. You can relax knowing that everything from your super comfy bed to the locally sourced ingredients on our menu are designed to reduce our impact on the environment.

IHG Green Engage System

Green Engage is an innovative program which allows IHG to design, build and run even more sustainable hotels.

voco® Gold Coast uses this platform to understand our energy, water and waste usage and takes recommended actions to make the property even more sustainable including:

  • Aerated shower heads - reducing water usage and lowers energy consumption for water heating.
  • "Planet-friendly ingredients" in bathroom amenities, obtained from sustainable or renewable plant-based origins, and cruelty free.
  • 100% Better Cotton Initiative approved bed line, contributing to sustainable cotton harvesting.

IHG Greener Stay

voco® Gold Coast has activated a 'Greener Stay' initiative to encourage IHG® One Rewards members to opt out of housekeeping services and decrease their impact on the environment. In return, IHG® One Rewards members will receive 500 IHG One Rewards points for every night they opt out of housekeeping services. Should a non-member guest express interest, they can enrol into the IHG® One Rewards Loyalty program via the Front Desk to opt in to 'A Greener Stay'.

Reducing plastic waste

From plastic straws to the complete elimination of single-use plastics, voco® Gold Coast has successfully phased out all single-use plastic straws and single-use stirrers, as well as the removal of plastic water bottles from our conference rooms. Instead, we have installed premium filter & carbonation water systems to replace single-use still & sparkling water.

Upon check-in, our hotel guests are given an eco-friendly alternative to classic plastic hotel cards - we use key-cards completely free from plastic and made entirely from recycled bamboo. Unlike plastic, wood is a renewable and biodegradable resource.

  • "Large-format" bathroom amenities reducing plastic waste by 80%.
  • Plastic straws replaced by biodegradable straws (available only by request) in total, IHG will remove 50 million straws globally.
  • Filtered tap water in every guest room, plus glass bottles in key areas of the hotel, such as meeting rooms further reduces plastic waste by 300,000+ bottles yearly.
  • Indulgent bedding made from 100% recycled materials, each doona is made from 150 plastic bottles.

Saving the bees

Our rooftop is home to 300,000 bees and we have a resident beekeeper who looks after them. Our Chefs then use the honey in our Signature Honey and Lavender flavoured welcome shortbread biscuits, at the breakfast buffet and in Social House's cocktail menu.
